Veteran’s Portrait Project – Part One

Category: Projects
Posted by: Stuart

Back in October we made a trip to Western North Carolina to reach out to Veterans and their families.  We were able to meet with 14 veterans that had served our great country.  We captured, through photos and video, several of their favorite experiences while they were serving.  The varying background of the men was evident as we had veterans that had served during WWII, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and all points in between.

If you know someone who’d like to be part of our project please let us know.  We are always looking for veterans of all eras to interview and photograph.

Check back in as we post more photos and the finally the video interviews.

Thank you,

Stuart  - Higher Expectations Photography

A Holiday party to remember

The evening started off great with guests arriving while ‘The Swatchmen‘ played in the ballroom.  The guest began trickling through the portrait booths and as the night progressed the photos became less posed and more spontaneous.  All in all I believe everyone had a great time and we hope to be a part of their celebration again next year.

Feel free to save the photos off the site to print or to use on your favorite social media site.  We do kindly ask that you tag Higher Expectations Photography when posting online.

If you’d like a full resolution copy for your family holiday card please let us know.

Thank you to all the folks that made this party one to remember.

[UPDATE] 11 Dec 12 – Ladies and Gentlemen.  My sincerest apologies for the delay in getting the final pictures processed.  Due to an unexpected family emergency I have been out of the area.  Having just returned I can now refocus my attention on the remainder of the photographs from the holiday party.  Thank you for understanding and your patience.  - Stuart

A Christmas Story Portrait Booth

On 1 December we have the honor of attending a holiday party set to the theme of one of the greatest Christmas movies of all time:  ‘A Christmas Story’.

We’ll have two portrait booths set up at the event.  The first booth will be traditional event style portraits and the second booth is themed.  We have a leg lamp, Red Ryder BB gun and an “Italian” crate for guests to pose on and around.  There is a rumor that a “Pink Nightmare” bunny suit will be on hand as well.

We’re excited to be part of the event and can not wait to share the pictures from the event.  Stay tuned.

[Update] Veteran’s Portrait Project – Mitchell County, NC

Calling all Veterans in the Mitchell and Yancey County area of Western North Carolina

Some close friends have known that I’ve had a Veteran’s Project in works for some time now.  Thanks to the amazing inspirational work of Stacy Pearsall [http://stacypearsall.photoshelter.com] of Charleston Center for Photography [www.CCforP.org] and her ongoing Veteran’s Project I’m finally getting everything together.

As an active duty member of the armed services I meet incredible veterans with wonderful stories at every turn.  Sometimes it turns out that I have known the person for years before revealing that they served long ago. When I have the opportunity to talk to these veterans it warms my heart to know the personal sacrifices they made for their country and families. Through this project I plan to honor them and their service.

The goal of the project is simple.  We are going to capture portraits of each veteran to reveal their character and experiences.  Also we are going to document a few of their stories.  The photos and selected veteran stories will be put into a book and sold with 100% of book sale proceeds to be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project [http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org].  Additionally, we’ll place the portraits onto our website for friends and family to share in their stories.

The last and most important part of the project is word of mouth advertising.  Sharing a link to this site on your Facebook, asking your uncle to stop by or mentioning it to a dear family friend is invaluable.

We have a location scheduled for the portraits in Spruce Pine on the 17th of October.  We’ll be setup at Profiles Hair and Tanning Salon (496 Balsam Avenue, Spruce Pine, NC) from 11am-5pm on 17 October.  As I mentioned please ask any veterans in your life (family, friends, co-workers, church members, etc) to stop by.  Additionally, we are looking for additional locations in the Mitchell County area that would be willing to host us for a few hours to meet with and photograph as many veterans as possible.

Thank you for supporting America’s Veterans and this project.

For additional information regarding the Veteran’s Project or to serve as a host please contact us at (210) 560-1664.
