Calling all Veterans in the Mitchell and Yancey County area of Western North Carolina
Some close friends have known that I’ve had a Veteran’s Project in works for some time now. Thanks to the amazing inspirational work of Stacy Pearsall [http://stacypearsall.photoshelter.com] of Charleston Center for Photography [www.CCforP.org] and her ongoing Veteran’s Project I’m finally getting everything together.
As an active duty member of the armed services I meet incredible veterans with wonderful stories at every turn. Sometimes it turns out that I have known the person for years before revealing that they served long ago. When I have the opportunity to talk to these veterans it warms my heart to know the personal sacrifices they made for their country and families. Through this project I plan to honor them and their service.
The goal of the project is simple. We are going to capture portraits of each veteran to reveal their character and experiences. Also we are going to document a few of their stories. The photos and selected veteran stories will be put into a book and sold with 100% of book sale proceeds to be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project [http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org]. Additionally, we’ll place the portraits onto our website for friends and family to share in their stories.
The last and most important part of the project is word of mouth advertising. Sharing a link to this site on your Facebook, asking your uncle to stop by or mentioning it to a dear family friend is invaluable.
We have a location scheduled for the portraits in Spruce Pine on the 17th of October. We’ll be setup at Profiles Hair and Tanning Salon (496 Balsam Avenue, Spruce Pine, NC) from 11am-5pm on 17 October. As I mentioned please ask any veterans in your life (family, friends, co-workers, church members, etc) to stop by. Additionally, we are looking for additional locations in the Mitchell County area that would be willing to host us for a few hours to meet with and photograph as many veterans as possible.
Thank you for supporting America’s Veterans and this project.
